From the late seventies to the early eighties, the Punk explosion reverberated in Italy in a rather peculiar way. Between 1977 and 1981 a small contingent of italian punks produced quite a number of fanzines, books, articles and records devoted to the 'new phenomenon'. Looking back on it now, it' s hard to imagine it ever happened. But it did. In this book Eletttro and Glezos, who played a key role in the scene at the time, open their enormous archive and give evidence about italian punk and how it all came together.
'Punk Alla Carbonara' (Carbonara Punk) is an unique book, assembled as a vintage punk fanzine, complete with typed text and handwritten notes. It includes:
a) hundreds of vintage extracts from 34 different fanzines, 31 magazines and newspapers and 15 books;
b) a chapter on the musical and non-musical national press, and the way it depicted the whole punk ethos, complete with hilariously funny fuck-ups of all kinds;
c) a special chapter ('Abjections') devoted to ads, record covers and gadgets produced by the italian record companies at that time;
d) a complete, track-by-track discography (1977-1981);
e) An exhaustive list of Italian fanzines of the era;
f) The complete list of books devoted to punk published in Italy between 1977 and 1981;
g) Hundreds of photos, record covers, posters and memorabilia.
'Punk Alla Carbonara' captures the feeling and the essence of the early italian punk scene. If you weren't there then - you can now.
